EDUCATION, AWARENESS & TRAINING

Jewish Women's Aid raises awareness of domestic violence in the Jewish community ensuring that it is no longer a hidden problem.  We work towards the community acknowledging, recognising and helping to prevent it.

To this end specially designed sessions, aiming to encourage young people to form safe relationships, are delivered in Jewish secondary schools, with over 2,500 students being reached in the 2010-11 academic year.  In addition JWA meets with Jewish students in mainstream schools, and with youth leaders.

JWA also leads the way in increasing awareness within the adult Jewish community, providing speakers, workshops and training courses for synagogue groups, Jewish professionals and organisations both in and out of the Jewish community, as well as working with the Jewish press.

JWA trains healthcare professionals, teachers, counsellors and rabbis who have contact with women affected by domestic violence.  We aim to ensure that wherever a Jewish woman is suffering abuse, the professionals with whom she comes into contact are aware of JWA and confident in recommending its services.  We offer bespoke courses for organisations, as well as introductory and advanced courses in domestic violence for all professionals.

If you'd like someone to speak about domestic violence to a community group or to professionals, or if you'd like to attend a training course, then please call 020 8445 8060 or e-mail info@jwa.org.uk
