EDUCATION and AWARENESS
JWA works to raise awareness of the existence of domestic violence in the Jewish community so that it is no longer a hidden problem. Instead, the community acknowledge, recognise and work to prevent it.
To this end specially designed sessions, aiming to encourage young people to form safe relationships, are delivered in Jewish secondary schools, with nearly 4,000 students being reached in the 2008-09 academic year. In addition JWA meets with Jewish students in mainstream schools and youth leaders.
JWA also leads the way in realising awareness within the adult Jewish community, providing speakers and written materials for synagogues and other Jewish community organisations, as well as working with the Jewish press.
JWA works with healthcare professionals, teachers and rabbonim who have contact with women affected by domestic violence. We aim to ensure that wherever a Jewish woman is suffering abuse, the professionals with whom she comes into contact are aware of JWA and confident in recommending its services.
