Domestic Violence is physical, psychological, financial or emotional abuse that takes places within an intimate or family type relationship.
It comes from the abuser's desire to exert power and control over the victim. Domestic violence is most commonly experienced by women and perpetrated by men. It is repetitive and life-threatening, and can destroy the lives of women and children.
One woman in four will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. It affects all women, regardless of age, education, class, lifestyle or religion; the Jewish community is no different to any other.
A woman experiencing domestic violence may be anyone you come into contact with; your mother, your sister, your daughter, a friend, colleague or neighbour.
Domestic violence is never the fault of the woman who is experiencing it. It is the responsibility of the perpetrator. |
