JWA’s professional Domestic Abuse Support Service provides short- and long-term practical and emotional support to women affected by domestic violence and abuse. Our aim is to prioritise your safety and help reduce your levels of risk – and ultimately, enable you to take back control of your life.

We make sure you feel believed, never blamed – we won’t judge or force our own opinions on you. Our trained staff provide information, objective advice and support that is relevant to your personal circumstances, helping you understand your options so you can make informed choices. Together, we work to draw up a plan of support according to your specific needs.
Confidentiality is vitally important to us. Information about you and your situation will not be passed on to anyone else, unless we are concerned about safety. This will always be discussed with you wherever possible, prior to the referral.
Our Domestic Abuse Support Service can offer
- Risk reduction and safety planning
- A free initial consultation with a family law solicitor (conditions apply)
- Welfare benefits advice
- Support accessing safe housing
- Support with obtaining a Get (Jewish bill of divorce)
- Referrals to the JWA Counselling Service – with up to a years’ free counselling to help you rebuild your life and sense of self – plus children’s therapy and parenting advice
- Guidance on civil and criminal legal options
- Support in family court proceedings
- Referrals to external agencies to support your specific requirements
Thanks to generous grants and donations, we offer additional support including:
- Help with the cost of living (conditions apply)
- Much-needed family days out with children
- Toiletries
- School uniform vouchers
- Financial support around Jewish New Year and Passover
We are also sometimes able to access grants to help provide beds, bedding, essential furniture, ovens, and computers as well as deposits for new tenancies.
