Rachel's Story
From the outside, my life looked normal. But behind closed doors, I was living in fear. The abuse crept in gradually until I no longer recognised myself. I lost my confidence, my freedom, my hope. I felt ashamed and alone and was terrified for my children. I didn’t know where to turn so I reached out to Jewish Women’s Aid.
My caseworker listened without judgement. For the first time, I felt believed. JWA supported me every step of the way, through legal battles, housing worries, and the deep emotional trauma my children and I were experiencing. They guided me with compassion and care and gave us the tools to change our lives. JWA helped us heal. They helped us begin again.
Your donation this Rosh Hashanah can help another woman, and her children escape the cycle of abuse. Together, we can break its grip on families and communities. Thank you for giving others the chance to live a life free from abuse. Wishing you a sweet and peaceful New Year.

Rachel's Son
When I was younger, I didn’t have the words for what we were going through, I just knew home didn’t feel safe. I could feel the tension, my mum was always upset.
I remember lying in bed at night holding my breath, hoping nothing bad would happen that night.
Everything started to change when my mum got help from Jewish Women’s Aid. They supported her but they didn’t forget about me. I had sessions with a children’s therapist at school and for the first time I felt like someone understood what I was going through.
Now when JWA comes to my secondary school to talk about healthy relationships, I tell my friends to listen. I know what it’s like to be scared at home and I want to help stop that for someone else.
“I know what it feels like to be scared at home. That’s why I speak up now, to stop the ripple before it spreads.”

Rachel's Father
As a parent, there’s nothing harder than watching your child struggle and not knowing how to help. Rachel seemed withdrawn, anxious but the signs were subtle. We didn’t know what to say, or whether we should say anything at all.
When she told us about Jewish Women’s Aid, it all started to make sense. She was experiencing abuse. They had given her the space, care, and the expert advice she needed to take back control of her life.
Rachel began to stand a little taller. Her voice grew stronger. We watched our daughter rebuild herself and our grandchildren start to laugh again. The support JWA provided transformed their lives. It transformed us all.
“Jewish Women’s Aid empowered my daughter and in doing so, they brought strength, calm, and hope back into our whole family.”
